LEAVE NO TRACE AT PINNACLES CAMPGROUND

Please follow the below LNT principles and extra tips while enjoying your stay at Pinnacles Campground.

1.     Plan Ahead and Prepare

Know the regulations and rules for the campground and Park. Prepare for the weather and use maps and GPS directions to ensure safe travel.

2.     Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces

Durable surfaces include maintained trails and designated campsites. Make sure you camp in your designated site only and try to avoid disturbing any vegetation.

3.     Dispose of Waste Properly

Pack it in, pack it out. Use the designated trash and recycling receptacles. Pack out all trash, leftover food and litter. To wash yourself or your dishes, carry water back to your campsite and use small amounts of biodegradable soap. Scatter strained dishwater.

4.      Leave What You Find

Preserve the past: examine, photograph, but do not touch cultural or historic structures and artifacts. Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them. Collecting Firewood is prohibited at Pinnacles.

5.      Minimize Campfire Impacts

When fires are permitted, use established fire rings only. Keep fires small and burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes.

6.      Respect Wildlife

Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them. Never feed animals. Protect wildlife and your food by storing rations and trash securely. Control pets at all times or leave them at home.

7.      Be Considerate of Other Visitors

Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Be courteous. Ensure you are quiet between 10pm and 6am. Let nature's sounds prevail. Avoid loud voices and noises.

Other considerations at Pinnacles Campground include:

 Littering

Littering can be both intentional and unintentional. We should all strive to maintain a clean Park and Campground to keep the experience for everyone as pristine as possible. Littering also has serious impacts on wildlife.

Micro trash can be especially harmful to native wildlife at Pinnacles. Many curious animals can ingest micro trash which can have serious negative effects on their health.

Please help us do your part and keep Pinnacles pristine by maintaining a tidy campsite and depositing all trash (big and small) in the appropriate receptacles. At the end of your stay please make sure you go through your campsite and look for any trash or micro trash and pick it up before you leave.

If you see litter anywhere in the campground or Park, please consider picking it up or alerting a staff member so they can pick it up. Thank you for your help!

 Social Trails

Social trails are trails that campers have made to take shortcuts through vegetated areas. This can have consequences such as disturbing campers when you walk through their site or destroying vegetated areas and reducing wildlife habitat. Please always stick to the designated trails and avoid walking through other campsites. Staff will put up barriers at some social trails to reduce unwanted traffic. Please respect these barriers and any signs to minimize your impact on social trails at Pinnacles.

 Food Scraps

As you cook and clean at your campsite it is important to try not to let any food scraps fall to the ground. If they do, please clean them up right away. Food scraps will attract wildlife to your campsite and lead to unwanted visitors bothering you after dark, especially raccoons.

Keep a garbage bag or reusable container handy to collect any food scraps while you prepare your food. Consider pre-chopping ingredients at home or choosing meals that require minimal on-site preparation. At the end of your meal, please check your cooking and prep areas for any food scraps and throw them in the trash receptacle before you’re done.

Keep your picnic table tidy and keep food scraps in check and you should decrease the chance of unwanted visitors during and after meal times.
